Relinquishing your parrot

Situations change. Perhaps there is some reason you need to find a new home for your parrot. Marriage, new baby, medical reason, move, financial situation--these are all reasons parrots are relinquished.

There is nothing wrong with admitting that you need help or that you need to re-home your parrot. If this is the best thing you can do for your parrot, then you should be applauded for thinking of their needs first.

If there is any way we can work with you to keep your parrots that would be our first choice. But, if you must find a new home, please contact us for help.

We carefully screen all potential adopters to find the best home for your parrot. We can provide a loving, attentive and nurturing home until we find that perfect "forever" home.

You can contact us by e-mail or telephone. We'll be glad to talk with you on the phone or if you're in the area, to sit down and talk with you. Visits to Dee's Haven are always welcome but we do ask you make an appointment.

If you need to re-home your parrot, we can send you pictures and updates. We welcome phone calls to check and see how things are going. If your parrot is adopted we can request that the new family send you updates.

Dee's Haven will NEVER charge you to take your parrot in and find him/her a loving home.

We do ask that you:

Have a current vet health certificate. This is for the safety of not only your bird, but the others at Dee's Haven. In extreme circumstances we may make an exception. Please contact us if you would like your vet to fax the health certificate or email it to us.

Please bring your parrot's cage, favorite toys and current food that they are eating.

Any information you can give us about your bird--likes, dislikes, fears, how they bathe, anything at all, helps us to not only make the transition as easy as possible on your bird, but it also helps us to find the best home.
